Patricia McGovern, PE
Principal

Patricia McGovern has over 24 years of environmental engineering experience and is a licensed Professional Engineer in California, Massachusetts, Texas, and Oregon. She founded MME in September 2003 to advance the state of the industry in terms of the integration of water, energy, and the environment.  Her expertise includes master planning, asset management, water reuse, water quality impact assessments, the detection and treatment of endocrine disruptor compounds (EDCs), and regulatory compliance.  Prior to founding MME, Ms. McGovern was an Associate at Carollo Engineers and a project manager/engineer for wastewater master planning, water reuse, asset management, source control, and regulatory compliance projects. Ms. McGovern also worked for the Narragansett Bay Commission in Providence, Rhode Island where she was responsible for regulatory compliance and source control programs.

Steve McDonald, PE, MBA, LEED AP
Principal

Steve McDonald has over 30 years of environmental engineering experience and is a licensed Professional Engineer in California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Florida, and Hawaii.  He is recognized for his innovation and leadership in delivering award-winning wastewater master plans with cutting-edge dynamic adaption strategies and achieving sustainability resiliency goals while keeping rates affordable. He has directed master-planning of over $25 billion in wastewater facilities in the last 20 years from Hawaii to Florida. This includes more than half the population of California. Mr. McDonald’s efforts have resulted in the AAEE Engineering Excellence Award for the 181 mgd Sacramento Regional WWTP, and the American Public Works Association (APA) National Environmental Planning Achievement Award for the 167 mgd San Jose/Santa Clara Water Pollution Control Plant.

Leighton Lum, PhD, PE
Chief Engineer

Mr. Lum is a professional engineer with over four decades of experience in the wastewater industry. He has a history of introducing and implementing innovative solutions to the Hawaii market, where he has practiced since receiving a doctorate in Environmental Engineering from the University of Texas. Mr. Lum has been a key figure in leading major wastewater treatment project upgrades at the Honouliuli and Sand Island plants in Hawaii.

Allison Petsche
Project Engineer

Ms. Petsche has experience in hands-on planning, design, and development of innovative water and wastewater disinfection systems, THM water treatment systems, and stormwater management systems. Ms. Petsche has worked on variety of projects in the water industry, ranging from on-site sodium hypochlorite disinfection system design to green house gas emissions estimates for wastewater treatment plants. She holds a Master’s of Science in Environmental Engineering from Stanford University.

 

Berti Benbanaste
Chief Film & Photography Director

Mr. Benbanaste is a commercial drone pilot, aerial cinematographer, and virtual reality (VR) producer. He holds an FAA Part 107 Pilot Certification No. 4122547. He has significant experience in film production, post processing and drone imaging. Mr Benbanaste has a reputation for delivering striking photography and videos with varying perspectives utilizing creative and VR editing tools. His experience in the environmental field ranges from special inspection of the inside of egg-shaped digesters to aerial video portraying striking images of our precious water resources.

Mariah Derkach
Project Engineer

Ms. Derkach is a project engineer with over four years of experience in environmental and technical consulting. Her experience includes innovative inspection services, environmental and facilities planning, stormwater permit development, greenhouse gas emissions inventory, wastewater system upgrades, and environmental sampling. Ms. Derkach has provided a variety of environmental compliance support to both federal and local entities. She received her degree in Environmental Engineering with a water resources focus from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

 

Elizabeth Binkley, P.E.
Project Engineer

Ms. Binkley is a project engineer with over twenty-three years of experience in the water industry. She has a wealth of experience with various public works projects, specifically in the design of water system upgrades. Her project experience includes modeling of drinking water supply distribution systems, design for replacement and upgrades to facilities, feasibility studies, and project management and construction supervision. Ms. Binkley is a practicing Professional Engineer with a Master’s from University of California at Berkeley in Environmental Engineering, with an emphasis on water quality.

Robert Bourke
Environmental Scientist

Mr. Bourke is an environmental scientist with three decades of design and field experience managing coastal and civil engineers, chemists, physicists, and planners to mitigate the impacts of civil structures on the water environment. This includes environmental and local limits assessments for the City & County of Honolulu’s Sand Island WWTP 3-mile ocean outfall. Mr. Bourke’s expertise lies at the juncture of ecology and engineering, understanding the structure, functions and services provided by the ecosystems impacted as a result of human activities, and how to minimize and mitigate for these losses through the restoration of near-by ecosystems.

 

Yale Bertolucci
Sr. Construction Manager/Field Materials Testing

Mr. Bertolucci has over thirty nine years of experience in the field of geotechnical exploration, lab testing as well as construction material inspection and testing as an engineering technician. He has extensive experience on a wide range of private and public works projects as a construction inspector, for which he provides field exploration, laboratory testing services in addition to field construction inspection, material testing and project management. He has created industry relationships with leading construction material QA/QC providers, engineering professionals and public works agencies. 

Tyler Layne
Mechanical/Instrumentation

Mr. Layne is experienced in automation and controls using the latest in remote wireless sensors and real-time optimization. Formerly he was engaged by Itron, inc. (Oakland) a technology and energy services company. His recent experience with MME includes project engineer for the planning and design of a wireless real-time optimization system for the RAS pumping and solids retention time (SRT) system for the 53 mgd Honouliuli Wastewater Treatment Plant in Oahu, HI. He is also the project engineer for the concept planning report of a microgrid system for a private client using advanced energy storage, load control, and state-of-the-art analytics.

 

Vinod Badni, PE
Civil/Structural Engineer

Mr. Badani has more than 40 years of extensive experience as a civil/structural project engineer as well as project manager design experience, including wastewater and water treatment plants, water reclamation and reuse facilities, water storage tanks and reservoirs, pipelines, fossil fuel power plants, manufacturing plants, and office buildings for both industrial and municipal clients across the United States. His experience includes program and project management, planning, and civil/structural design. He has prepared feasibility studies and master plans and has performed preliminary and final design engineering. He has provided design services during construction, construction management, and overall program and project management.

Kenneth Webb
Data Analytics, Operations, and Model Development

Mr. Webb has over two decades of experience in data analytics, operations, and model development in the financial services industry. He has contributed to the creation of a utility management optimization planning model currently in production. He has previous experience with development and implementation of machine learning models. Mr. Webb holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering from University of Michigan.

 

Loren Weinbrenner, PE
Sr. Project Civil/Environmental Design Engineer

Mr. Weinbrenner has more than 40 years of experience in the condition assessment of pipelines and in the conceptual planning, design, and preparation of specifications and cost estimates for a broad range of projects including transmission pipelines, water treatment, pump stations, and civil/site work. His expertise includes project and construction management and project management. He has been responsible for a wide range of water and gas projects with emphasis on pump station and pipeline design.

Mark Davis
Senior CADD Designer

Mr. Davis is a Senior CADD Designer with broad experience in producing engineering drawings for wastewater treatment facilities for pumping, conveyance, treatment, reclamation, and disposal facilities. His experience also includes generating a wide variety of graphics including those for environmental studies and hazardous waste projects, including developing color or mono figures such as contour maps, location maps, well logs, project schedules, and proposals. Experience with AutoCAD 2002, and AutoCAD Land Development Desktop software.
